Love this article and brings back such strong gorgeous heady memories of my brief time in Luang Prabang (following a harrowing overnight bus journey from Chiang Rai!). Wonderful writing, can't wait to read more!
Whether transporting the reader to Hawaii, the Canaries, South America, Europe or Asia, your writing never fails to inspire with such rich, evocative tableaux and wonderful imagery. This lovely piece is no different. One can almost sense the heat and humidity, the multitude of wafting, exotic scents emanating from kitchens everywhere, the sensory overload. In the absence of being there, truly the next best thing.
A beautiful description of Laos, its food, culture and extreme heat and humidity. I felt as though I had been taken through the markets and towns and could smell the spices and food simmering on the side of the road.
Laos is a very special country, full of humility and spirituality, which Marco captures beautifully. The economy is now picking up, too, so the poverty isn't as stark as previously. My wife Claire and I went to a wedding there 10 years and were asked to sit close together on the bridal bed to promote fertility. It worked. Within a year, the happy couple (not us) had a lovely little boy.
Those first couple photos brought back quite some memories! I did the same when I was in Laos: waking up before dawn to line up and give the food offerings to the monks. It was such a beautiful and unique experience 🏮🧡
I'm not sure the sight of me, looking acutely embarrassed on a marital bed, was beautiful, but I will take the compliment, Marco. Maybe you were referring to Claire?

So glad you enjoyed, Carolyn. We had a pretty arduous drive to far northern Laos after our stay in LP, but that (as they say) is another story!

Lao food has elements of all its neighbouring cuisines but the noodle soups especially are close cousins of Vietnam’s

Thank you, Robert.
I can still feel the heat on this frigid, damp London morning. What I wouldn’t give to be there lounging under a lazy ceiling fan right now....
What a vivid description of the Festival of the Boats of Life . So colourful and I can literally feel the vibe through your words .
Thank you for the collaboration . Look forward to doing more of them
Likewise, Lakshmi!
It was sheer luck that we arrived in Luang Prabang for the climax of that festival, but it's an experience we'll never forget

What a beautiful ceremony, Bertie! Although I can imagine it must have been a trifle embarrassing!
What wonderful photos, and a great read, congratulations.
I love Vietnamese and Thai food, I've also been to Cambodian and even Burmese restaurants.
I can't recall ever trying Lao food, but I'm sure it is yummy. Which of its neighboring cuisines would you say it most resembles?
Wow! I just saw the pictures I am bookmarking to come back to read a bit later!
Great, Jolene!

It’s such a calm, gentle city Sabrina. We loved it there!
Humbled, David. Thank you
Thanks so much, Amelia!
