Otherworldly for sure, but quintessentially American. With everything that's happening it's worth recalling Wallace Stegner's famous 1983 quote " National Parks are the best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our best rather than our worst."
Very enjoyable post and great pictures! We visited Monument Valley almost exactly a year ago and stayed at the View Lodge, aptly named for being smack dab in front of the most recognizable buttes (featured in a lot of John Ford westerns featuring John Wayne), but so expensive we gulped before splurging on two nights. We’ve never visited the Slot Canyons, but your gorgeous photos are a great enticement!
Beautiful photos and lovely rendering of what looks like an idealic vacation off the grid. The airbnb sounds unreal. Like out of the Old West. How great you found it. Enjoyed this post!
So happy you enjoyed it, Jeanine. Gary and Claire the proprietors at the Valley of the Gods B&B are still there nearly twenty years later. Use those GPS coordinates soon!
We've made quite a few trips to Utah in all seasons, John and for stunning scenery and wild places it is second to none. Do let us know how your trip goes
Great photos from a place I've never seen. In some ways it seems, not just a different country from my part of the USA, but a different WORLD!
Thanks so much!

Kind of you to say, Tessa. Honestly the places we visited are so beautiful and unspoiled that it's hard to take a bad one.
Wonderful photographs!
X2. The photos are great. The writing, wonderful. Thank you.
That means a lot, John. Happy you enjoyed!
I so desperately want to make my way to Arizona!!! These photos 💥

That’s great! They sound like innkeepers of the highest degree, and in an idealic setting.
